Library photo: Rescuers described conditions as "challenging" due to snow and ice
The bodies of two men, aged 19 and 20, have been recovered on Yr Wyddfa, also known as Snowdon, after they were reported missing.
Mountain rescuers and HM Coastguard crews were called in to help in the search after concerns were raised about the welfare of the pair on Wednesday.
North Wales Police said the two bodies were discovered on Thursday. They have both been formally identified, and their families have been informed. The coroner has been notified.
The force asked that the privacy of both families is respected at this difficult time.
Jurgen Dissmann, chairman of Llanberis Mountain Rescue Team, said: "I would like to extend our most heartfelt condolences to the families and loved ones of the two men who have tragically lost their lives.
"The team were tasked by North Wales Police and launched an extensive multi-agency operation in full winter conditions."
Dissmann said volunteers searched across challenging mountain terrain in snow and ice, working long hours through the night in difficult weather to try and find the pair.
"Despite the determined and sustained commitment of everyone involved, we are deeply saddened that, despite all efforts, the outcome was not what we had hoped for."
Aberglaslyn Mountain Rescue Team also took part in the search, along with RAF Mountain Rescue Team among others.
