Raye tops album charts with This Music May Contain Hope

Award-winning singer-songwriter Raye has topped the album charts for the first time with This Music May Contain Hope.

The album, which she released last week, is her second number one this year following the hugely successful single, Where the Hell is My Husband - which she debuted at Glastonbury last summer and is now approaching its billionth stream on Spotify.

Olivia Dean's The Art of Loving is at number two in the album chart, while US rapper Kanye West, now known as Ye, is at number three with his new release Bully.

In the singles chart, Dean and Sam Fender's Brit award-winning single Rein Me In is at number one, followed by Bella Kay, with Iloveitiloveitiloveit.

At number three, Australian band Tame Impala enter the top 10 singles chart for the first time with Dracula.

Harry Styles has stayed at number four with American Girls, while BTS are at number five with Swim.

Meanwhile, their album, Arirang, is at number four in the album chart.

Singer-songwriter Melanie Martinez's newly released album, Hades, is just behind BTS at number five.

'I miss that analogue feeling'

This Music May Contain Hope fuses old-school jazz with an orchestra, blues, big band and soul, reflecting what Raye told the BBC last year.

"There's a thing I miss in in pop music today, which is that kind of Motown feeling, that classic feeling, that analogue feeling," she said.

"So I was really excited to really, really experiment with that quite vividly."

Her previous album, 2023's My 21st Century Blues, debuted at number two in the charts.

She achieved seven Brit nominations in 2024, which is a record for the most in a single year. She went on to win six of them - also a record.
